Intel Smart Clip Reminds You Not to Leave the Baby in the Car

baby in a car seatDespite the best intentions of parents, 38 children die on average every year because their caretakers forgot them in the car. It’s a sad statistic for a completely preventable situation, which is why Intel has come up with a solution that, if used properly, would eliminate these tragic deaths all together.

The Intel Smart Clip is a device that simply replaces the current chest clip in your child’s car seat, and measures the conditions in the car. The device functions via an app on your smartphone, displaying a green checkmark when the harness is unbuckled, and a red “X” when it’s not. When conditions are dangerous in the car and your child’s car seat harness is fastened, or when your phone leaves the range of the seat clip, the clip sends a notification to your phone. When you leave the car, and the buckle remains fastened, an alarm will sound on your phone.

“The alert will continue to go off, even if we acknowledge it, it will continue to go off every 20 seconds until we’re actually back in range of the car seat clip and we’ve actually unclipped it,” said Marcie Miller, a business development professional with Intel who demonstrated the product to USA Today.

In the hustle and bustle of everyday life, it’s not completely unrealistic that people can forget their children in the backseat, making a device like this potentially life-saving.

“One of the really interesting things that I found when I was starting to do research was that all the case studies or stories about accidentally leaving children in cars are not limited to any socioeconomic or education level,” Miller said. “It can happen to anyone, doctors, lawyers, professors, stay at home parents, retirees, grandparents – really anyone.”

While the clip is currently just a prototype, we at Gossett Chrysler Jeep Dodge Fiat hope to see a production version available soon.

FCA Music Video Collaborations Push Total YouTube Views Over 2.5 Billion

FCA vehicles have found their way into a long list of music videos, thanks to their iconic reputation across the world. A number of top record-producing labels regularly collaborate with FCA to incorporate the automaker’s presence in YouTube music videos. FCA has announced that the number of YouTube views from FCA music video collaborations has surpassed 2.5 billion – an impressive feat for any product.

FCA has the massive success of the official music video “See You Again”  by Wiz Khalifa featuring Charlie Puth (part of the Furious 7: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack) to thank. The music video, which is a tribute to the late Paul Walker and features the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger, has amassed more than 861 million views since its debut in April. This makes “See You Again” the most-viewed music video globally for 2015.

“Music is one of the strongest ways we have to authentically align a brand with the relevance of a moment and open up a dialogue with Millennials. Our strengths rest not just in the relationships we’ve forged with the labels, studios and artists, but also in our agility, which enables us to quickly satisfy production timelines, and the diversity of our FCA portfolio, which allows us to place our vehicle line-up in a manner that is credible to the viewer and true to each brand. Reaching more than 2 billion views is a significant feat – it’s like the viewing equivalent of 20 Super Bowls,” commented Francois, Chief Marketing Officer, FCA – Global.

Dodge and Fiat Win Big in J.D. Power’s APEAL Study

Here at Gossett Chrysler Jeep Dodge Fiat, we understand just how high the quality of our vehicles is—so do our customers who keep coming back for more. However, we’re not alone in this sentiment. J.D. Power has joined our praise for Dodge and Fiat vehicles as well.

According to a press release from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, the Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger, and Fiat 500 all came in first in their segments during J.D. Power’s 2015 US Automotive Performance, Execution, and Layout Study.

The study, better known as the APEAL study, entered its 20th year in 2015. It measures how satisfied customers are with a new vehicle.

The Dodge Challenger ranked first in the midsize sporty car category of J.D. Power’s APEAL Study. With its powerful performance, there’s enough punch in this car to satisfy any thrill-seeker. Meanwhile, the Challenger’s sibling, the Charger, won the large car category. In the realm of Fiats, the Fiat 500 ranked first in the city car category, thanks to its design and efficiency.

“We’re proud to receive three APEAL awards in back-to-back years as customers continue to recognize that we’re delivering exciting and appealing vehicles which meet their needs,” said Matt Liddane, Vice President of Quality at FCA-North America. “An owner’s positive experience with our vehicles, whether that’s with a Dodge Challenger or a Fiat 500, is a true testament to our steadfast commitment to the highest level of quality across our vehicle lineup.”

Best Elvis Songs to Have on Your MP3 Player

musicMemphis, Tennessee was the kingdom of the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley. The King’s presence can be felt everywhere here, from Graceland to the downtown city streets. Nowhere is his spirit more alive than in his music. Here are some of Elvis’ signature songs you need on your MP3 player.

“Heartbreak Hotel”

One of the King’s first big hits, “Heartbreak Hotel” is an ode to lonely and heartbroken souls in the world who are feeling the blues.

“Jailhouse Rock”

From the hotel to the penitentiary, “Jailhouse Rock” is a signature Elvis number. It’s so good, it’s almost criminal!

“A Little Less Conversation”

This fast-paced single is a lot more rock than roll, but its infectious energy has made it a hit.

“Suspicious Minds”

A very personal song for the King, “Suspicious Minds” helped Elvis gain back commercial and critical success later in his career, and is considered by many to be his signature song.

“Burning Love”

Temperatures rise whenever this song comes on. One of Elvis’ late and great hits, “Burning Love” is still red hot today!

What to Do After You Buy a Car

buying a new carYou just signed all the paperwork. Your new car is financed, has been spruced up, and is ready to go home. Now what? You’ll have a small window to complete some of the less-exciting tasks associated with buying a car, and we recommend getting them done right away so you can ride off into the sunset care-free.

Once you have decided on a car, you should call your insurance company so they can quote you for the coverage you need. Once you buy the car, you can simply give them the VIN number, and they can activate the new insurance policy and payment right away. This is a simple step that should be complete before you drive off the lot. The insurance company will either mail or email you your proof of insurance for use at the DMV and to keep in your vehicle.

When you buy your car from a dealership, they will likely set you up with a temporary registration (usually 30 days), which allows you to drive legally until you get the vehicle registered with your state. If you buy your car used, you’ll need to get it registered before you can drive it.

Each state has different regulations, but in general, you’ll need ID, proof of insurance, the title of the car if you bought it outright (or your loan paperwork if you didn’t), and proof of address. Some states also require an emissions inspection, which can be completed at your local dealership or shop.

You’ll take all of this paperwork to the DMV, where they will issue you your license plates and registration paperwork. This can cost upwards of several hundred dollars, so call ahead to find out what kind of payment your DMV accepts. You’ll need to update the registration annually, if you buy a new car, or if you move to a new state.

Review the Owner’s Manual

Believe it or not, the owner’s manual is provided for you to actually read over. Take some time to get to know the ins and outs of your new car, and make sure you know emergency functions, like the emergency trunk release, spare tire kit, how to pop the front hood, and hazard lights. This may sound silly, but also get to know your windshield wipers right away. Have you even been in an unfamiliar car when a downpour starts? These nuances can save you headaches later.

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ Uconnect System Sees Worthwhile Updates

2015 Chrysler 200

Current Chrysler 200 – Available at Gossett CJDR Fiat!

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ Uconnect system (the infotainment and connectivity system found in equipped versions of the 2016 Chrysler 200 and 300; Dodge Challenger, Charger, Durango and Viper; Jeep Cherokee and Jeep Grand Cherokee; and Ram 1500, HD, and chassis-cab models) will see major updates for the 2016 model year. Better graphics, a drag-and-drop menu bar, faster response times, and Apple’s Siri Eyes Free integration are just some of the exciting updates.

Do not disturb: Users will now have the ability to enable a “Do Not Disturb” function to block incoming calls and text messages. The features allows users to set up a pre-written custom text response, which is automatically sent when a call or text comes through.

Drag-and-drop: Users can personalize Uconnect’s lower menu bar with a new drag-and-drop feature. The feature allows users to move their most-used features and icons to the lower menu bar for easy access.

SiriusXM Tune Start: SiriusXM Satellite Radio’s new Tune Start feature automatically starts songs from the beginning when switching between favorite pre-set satellite radio channels.

Siri Eyes Free: Uconnect allow users with an iPhone 4S or newer to access Siri, Apple’s personal assistant, by pressing a steering wheel button. Siri can search the internet, offer stock market information, provide sports scores, make phone calls, and much more using only voice commands.

Here at Gossett Chrysler Jeep Dodge Fiat, we believe that these worthwhile updates will help to keep drivers connected on the go but still engaged on the road. We look forward to putting the new system to the test as it rolls out in 2016 models later this year and early next!
