From Desert to Tundra: 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Testing Pushed Minivan to the Limit

Imagine buying a new vehicle that already had millions of miles on it. Sounds crazy, right? That’s what you’ll get if you pick up the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivan.

The truth is that you’ll be buying a whole lot of confidence, not miles. Chrysler put the Pacifica through some of the most rigorous testing that the industry has ever seen.

That testing included 3.4 million miles of road testing, making it “one of the highest pre-production mileage totals of any Chrysler brand vehicle ever,” according to The Detroit News.

The all-new Pacifica also underwent extreme weather testing. Engineers drove the minivan around in the 120-degree Arizona heat as well as subzero temperatures in Alaska.

The Chrysler Pacifica is the automaker’s premier minivan, the Town & Country name having been retired. Along with the name change, Chrysler also took the opportunity to build an entirely new minivan from the ground up. This is why the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica testing was so rigorous.

As Jessica LaFond, chief engineer for the Pacifica, put it, “For us, the reason for so much testing is when you bringing a new architecture into the market, you’re starting from zero.”

Three Ways to Avoid Traffic on a Road Trip

trafficHitting the road this summer? Nothing can threaten your good vibes like highway congestion. Here are some ways to avoid traffic on a road trip.

# 1 – Use Waze

When it comes to smartphone navigation apps, there’s nothing particularly special about the basic navigation abilities of Waze. It’s the crowd-sourced traffic info that makes Waze shine. Not only can you get real-time information on a traffic jam, other drivers can help you find a successful detour.

# 2 – Time your trip properly

Most major cities experience rush hour traffic jams between 8:00am and 9:00am and between 4:00pm and 6:00pm. When planning your trip, leave at a time that allows you to avoid major cities during rush hour. Properly planning your stops for food and attractions can also help in this regard.

# 3 – Take the scenic route

A significant part of the fun of taking a road trip is the journey there, not just the destination itself. Why not enhance the journey by avoiding interstates altogether and taking the scenic route? Not only do you get to enjoy the beautiful scenery but you are also less likely to encounter traffic.

A road trip should not be stressful. That’s what everyday life is for! Using these strategies to avoid traffic on a road trip, you can make your trip more fun and more memorable.

Chrysler and Google Join Forces to Make Driverless Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid Minivan

2016 Chrysler Pacifica

2016 Chrysler Pacifica – Available now at Gossett CJDR-Fiat!

Perhaps more than any other company, Google has committed an astounding amount of research toward autonomous driving. The tech company has been in the business for a while and has made extraordinary inroads in making a truly driverless car a reality.

Fiat Chrysler, like many other automakers, is working to introduce stable and truly helpful autonomous technology into their lineup. To that end, the brand has teamed up with a certain technology company to make 100 driverless Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans.

When faced with making a driverless minivan, you can imagine the decision makers at Chrysler asking themselves, “Why reinvent the wheel? Let’s call Google!”

The division of labor is rather simple. Chrysler will design the minivans so that it can easily accommodate the computers and sensors of Google’s self-driving system. In turn, Google will install its technology and ensure that the software works just like it’s supposed to.

The partnership between Chrysler and Google is the first time that the tech giant has teamed up with an automaker to install its technology.

Car Parts Explained: How Anti-Lock Brakes Work

brakeCars are complex machines with tens of thousands of part. However, it is important to understand some systems, including anti-lock brakes. We’ve put together a post on how anti-lock brakes work, helping you to understand one of the most important automotive innovations in recent years.

According to How Stuff Works, anti-lock brakes or the anti-lock braking system (ABS) was actually developed as early as 1929 by Frenchman Gabriel Voisin; however, it did not really hit the automotive market until the 1970s, and it wasn’t until the early 1990s that it became standard on virtually all new cars.

Anti-lock brakes work by rapidly pulsing the brakes, a method used in order to prevent locking. When the wheels lock-up, this means that they stop spinning. Although this might seem good, it often causes cars to skid or slide, eliminating control. Anti-lock brakes stop and start at the blink of an eye—so fast, in fact, that you can’t see it. This actually allows you to stop faster, especially when slamming on the brakes.

ABS consists of a computer controller, wheel sensors, and hydraulics. Basically, a computer and sensors determine when wheels lock (or may lock) and then activate calipers with a hydraulic system to “pulse” the brakes. Again, this all happens so fast you probably won’t be able to see it.

ABS may also be used with systems like traction control to increase stopping power. ABS reduces the risk of multiple vehicle crashes by 18 percent. In the US, ABS is required by law in all models that have electronic stability control, a regulation that began in 2011.

New 2017 Pacifica Interior Wins Awards from Wards Auto

The new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica is already winning awards, including the Wards 10 Best Interiors award. This annual prize is given to the top models in the world, focusing on those with premium interior designs. The Pacific was a no-brainer, with a sophisticated design and high-tech gadgets.

According to Chrysler, Wards took two months to look at a total 47 vehicles, scoring the best on materials, ergonomics, driver information, safety, comfort, fit-and-finish, and aesthetics. The editors at WardsAuto decided the 2017 Pacifica interior was definitely one of the best.

“The folks who put the minivan on the map in the 1980s have stunned the segment yet again with the lavishly appointed Chrysler Pacifica,” said Tom Murphy, senior editor of WardsAuto. “Shoppers buy minivans out of necessity, but there are many aspects of the Pacifica they will want…A trip to school, hockey practice or the doctor’s office will never be the same.”

Believe it or not, Chrysler invented the minivan more than 30 years ago—the Pacifica is just the result of years of design. This model is great for large families who want to enjoy driving, with the latest in entertainment and comfortable seating no matter where you are going.

Have you ever had that experience when you don’t know what a certain light on your dashboard means? Or you don’t know how to access a feature you know your vehicle has? Sometimes you can find the answers to these and other questions in your car’s owner’s manual—that booklet in your glove compartment that you’ve never opened. But what happens if you need the info while you’re driving?

FCA is going to make it really easy for drivers to look up this information by pre-installing a 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Vehicle User Guide into the Uconnect system of every Pacifica model. Drivers will be able to easily navigate the User Guide either by searching for keywords or browsing through four categories: Vehicle Operation, Uconnect Radio, Vehicle Maintenance, and Emergency & Support.

Some of the features will even be VIN-specific, so you won’t have to read through information that doesn’t apply to your car.

The Uconnect Vehicle User Guide made its debut first in the 2016 Dodge Charger, Challenger, and Chrysler 300.

If you had the Uconnect Vehicle User Guide installed in your car, would you take advantage of its easy-to-use features?

Dodge Charger Hellcat with Hennessey Tops Out at 1,032 Horsepower

Dodge Charger HellcatYou read that headline right: the Dodge Charger Hellcat with Hennessey reached an unthinkable amount of horsepower back in late February.

Hennessey Performance is a tuning house specializing in customizing and modifying sports cars for maximum performance and thrill. When it comes to classic American performance, these are the guys who made it “classic.”

The Dodge Charger Hellcat with Hennessey modifications reached 1,032 horsepower and 987 lb-ft of torque due to the added twin-turbocharging system paired with the factory supercharger. There’s also a high-flow air-to-water intercooler, dual-turbo waste gates, and stainless steal turbo headers and downpipes. The new additions led to a 0-to-60 sprint time of just 2.7 seconds and a quarter-mile sprint time of 9.9 seconds, moving at 142 mph. That’s pretty fast for a four-door sedan!

This Dodge Charger Hellcat comes with a numbered plaque signed by John Hennessey, the godfather of turbocharging (not an official title but it should be), and by the technician.
