The return of summer means the return of the road trip, one of the all-time great American pastimes. Fortunately for folks residing in the Home of the Blues, Memphis is conveniently located near a number of must-see spots that you can check out in just a day’s time.
Tennessee Safari Park
Love animals? This park in Alamo, Tennessee, started off as a farm but opened its doors to tourists after collecting a wide variety of exotic animals. The safari park is not just a great place to see beautiful creatures from around the world, but it’s also a perfect opportunity to learn and teach your children about endangered species and environmental conservation.
Historic districts, a vibrant local arts scene, local boutiques, delicious food, and the former home of classic author William Faulkner can all be found in Oxford. Don’t forget to check out the scenic lakes and gardens of Lamar Park, a locale that is well worth the visit alone!
Only about an hour away from Memphis, Jonesboro is a paradise for outdoorsy types. From the Forrest L. Wood Crowley’s Ridge Nature Center to Craighead Forest Park, there are plenty of lakes and trails to enjoy.
Is there anywhere more iconic than Nashville? Enjoy the sights and, of course, sounds in Music City by visiting its various boutiques, music venues, and restaurants. Nashville is one of the more happening places in the United States, particularly if you’re a fan of country and classic rock—be sure to check out the Grand Ole Opry and Johnny Cash Museum.
These are just a few of the fun day trips you can take from Memphis that’ll still have you home in time for supper. Looking for a fresh new ride to go out exploring in? Make it a new Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep®, or Ram from Gossett CDJR!
